Well, with just over a week to go until the first competition at River Bluff, things are hoppin’ when it comes to the band. I know you probably get tired of getting emails and stuff, so I will cover a lot of ground in this one.
There is a long list of students that we do not have proper medical and travel forms for and these are very important since your child cannot travel with the band unless they are turned in. The list of names with missing paperwork are on Facebook and the band website at wkhsband.com.
This Saturday is another all day practice, but this time it will be in the football stadium. I am going to cook hot dogs for the kids, staff, chaperones, and prop crew for lunch. If you would be willing to send something to go with the hot dogs, such as chips, dessert, drinks, etc., that would be much appreciated. If a couple of you have nothing better to do on Saturday around lunch time, I could use some help serving.
Lastly, yes, I will touch on finances…again. We have over $30,000 in outstanding band fees, at least $20,000 of which is for return marchers/Guard! These fees were due in August (Rookie marchers should have paid their $100 initial deposit in May, with their balance due in December). We currently have about $25,000 in the bank and in the next few weeks will be spending at least $15,000 of that, leaving us very little “cushion” to work with for our later competitions. If we do not get the money we need to operate, there is no back up plan. We will simply not go to competitions. If that were to happen, it would be a sad day for this band program and the students who have worked so hard to get to this point. There are only two ways to keep this from happening: 1) Pay your fees immediately and 2) Fundraising. You are the only one that can take care of number 1 if you haven’t already. Everyone can help with number 2! We have the upcoming Timberwolf Fall Festival & Car Show on October 24 and we will need all the parents to volunteer their time for this all day event that will culminate with an exhibition by the Band in the stadium. Please contact Tammy Smith at wkbbwaysmeans@gmail.com to let her know you would like to help.
A huge thank you to the parents who volunteer their time and talents on an everyday basis to help get these kids ready to compete!
Chris
